Can you believe it’s already 2016? I hope you had a good start to the New Year. You might have been wondering why I’ve been so quiet. When the second half of last year spun out into all sorts of hecticness, my photography had to take a back seat.
The storms seemed to have passed and lately, I’ve been enjoying taking personal photos for fun and editing personal projects, like this portrait session of my gorgeous sister, Janine.
We shot these images in my parents beautiful garden (I call it ‘Little Kirstenbosch) and sun-room last year during her holiday.
It reminded me of the time my primary school best friend I planned a fashion photo shoot. At the time, she wanted to be a fashion designer and I was up to doing anything creative that involved making pictures. Somehow we persuaded my sister, who wasn’t too interested in modelling, to join us. We dressed up and between the three of us, we directed and modelled a little fashion shoot, has best as 11-year-olds and 12-year-olds could. My mother let us use her point and shoot film camera and she even paid for the photos to be developed. I still have a giggle when I see those photos in the family photo albums.
It’s amazing how easy it is to forget the dreams and ideas we had as kids, even though they’re probably the truest reflection of who we are, what we love and what we should be doing with our lives. Shoo-wow. Anyhoo, enjoy the photos…
PS… My sister still doesn’t love modelling but, she was kind enough to indulge me and relive a little childhood fun with me. That’s love.
