If you saw part one of Melany’s beauty portrait session, you’ll know that we spent time photographing indoors, thanks to the strong wind. That’s Cape Town for you. However, for the second segment of the session, we decided to brave the weather – hoping that the wind would calm down as the afternoon faded into evening.
It turned out that it was wishful thinking – the wind continued to howl. I’m happy that we headed out anyway because, when a portrait photo session doesn’t go exactly to plan, it forces creative thinking and that’s when the magic happens. I’m starting to realise that, while planning has its place, leaving enough space for spontaneity is just as important – in photography and in life.
