No matter what the era, beauty is timeless! And, while I was editing this beauty portrait session, I couldn’t help but notice a hint of classic old world glamour…
Wearing a gorgeous turquoise dress, Melany’s classic beauty was enhanced with make-up by the talented Tracy Neethling of Make-up by Tracy. Tracy gave Melany soft smokey eyes, sun-kissed cheeks and peachy pink stained lips. It’s an elegant look that suited Melany to the tee!
While she has done some amateur modelling work before with various photographers, including me (you can see Melany’s maternity portraits here), it’s hard to believe that Melany is not a professional model! She has an amazing ability encapsulate vulnerability, confidence and sensuality when posing. She also has a keen eye and creative ideas – making her such a pleasure to work with.
When Melany showed me her turquoise dress with the pretty silver embellishments – a bridesmaid dress she wore to a recent wedding – I had to ask if we could do beauty portraits (before she sells the dress).
The plan was to take photos on the beach but, in true Cape Town fashion, it was blowing a gale! So we took most of the photos in a “studio setting” – Melany’s guest room and study – using a natural light, a flash and reflectors. We then ventured out to see if we could take a few photos outdoors (which you will see in part 2).
While I usually prefer clean looking images, I decided to highlight the old world glamour of each image in post-production, ageing the images slightly and adding textures – one of which is Jessica Drossin’s Harper texture.
